WHEREAS, Arthur J. Garfield did in his lifetime serve
4
the City of Newport Beach in the capacity of a City Councilman,
5
for more than seven years; and
6
WHEREAS, said Arthur J. Garfield was honest, faithful
7
and conscientious in his duties toward the City, and as a City
8
Councilman; and
9
WHEREAS, said Arthur J. Garfield devoted a great deal
10
of his time not only to his public duties but also gave of his
11
time and energy in furthering civic betterment in the City of
12
Newport Beach; and
13
WHEREAS, Arthur J. Garfield possessed a large measure
14
of human charm and had many gifts of mind and bearing, and one
15
of his chief accomplishments was that of being a gentleman in
16
all ofhis dealings with his fellowmen; and
17
WHEREAS, said Arthur J. Garfield's life has been pre-
18
maturely ended but the memory of the man will long remain with
19
the City officials, his fellow citizens and friends in the City
20
of Newport Beach; and
21
WHEREAS, the official family of the City of Newport
22
Beach has lost an ardent and conscientious worker, and a kindly
23
and sympathetic friend. The life work of Arthur J. Garfield is
24
ended, but his memory will long linger with us.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council

of the City of Newport Beach in special session assembled,
28
hereby tender their heartfelt sympathy and condolence to his
29
loving wife, Mabel 0. Garfield, and to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a copy of this Resolution
be spread on the minutes of this meeting and a certified copy
thereof be sent by the Clerk of this City Council to his
bereaved wife, Mabel 0. Garfield.
I hereby certify that the above and foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Newport Beach at a special meeting
thereof held on the 28th day of June, 1937, by the following
