RESOLUTION NO.1
• RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH,
CALIFORNIA, STATING THE RESULT
OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION
RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL BOND
ELECTION HELD APRIL 220 1947.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, California, by Ordinance No. 557, duly
called and provided for the holding of a special elec..
tion in said city on April 22, 1947 for the purpose of
submitting to the qualified voters of said city the
bond proposition set forth in said ordinance and:
hereinafter stated; and
WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly and
regularly given in time, form and manner as provided
by law, and said election was on the said date duly
held at the polling places designated in said ordinance
and the votes cast thereat were canvassed and the re-
turns thereof made at the time and in the manner and
form provided by law; and
WHEREAS, on this 29th day of April, 1947, at
the hour of 4;00 o'clock P.M., said City Council has duly
assembled at its usual place of meeting and has canvassed
the returns of said election;

• NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, California, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE
• AND ORDER as follows:

Section 1. That the special election for the
of submitting to the voters of the City of
Beach the bond proposition hereinafter set forth
y held on April 22, 1947s and the votes cast
were duly and regularly canvassed and the
thereof made at the time and in the form and
manner required by law.
Section 2. That the bond proposition voted
upon at said election is as follows, to wit:
"PROPOSITION: Shall the City of
Newport Beach incur a bonded indebtedness
in the principal sum of $420,000.00 for
the purpose of the acquisition and con-
struction by said City of a certain
municipal improvement, to wit: additions
to and improvements of the municipal
water system of said City, including the
construction of water mains, the recon-
struction and replacement of water mains,
the drilling and construction of wells
and the construction of reservoirs, and
including the acquisition of all pipe,
pumps, equipment and apparatus necessary
therefor ?"
Section 3. This being the seventh day after
said election, the absent voter ballots have been duly
canvassed and counted as required by law, and the result
of such count is hereinafter stated. That this City
Council has duly canvassed the returns of said election
and from said returns it app3ars, and this City Council
• finds, that the total number of votes cast in each of
• the respective election precincts established for said
election upon said proposition, and the number of votes
therein for and against said proposition, and the total

Section 4. That the votes of less than two -
thirds of all the voters voting at said election were cast
in favor of the adoption of said bond proposition, and
said bond proposition is hereby declared to have failed
• to carry at said election.
