HomeMy WebLinkAbout3676 - Pacific Electric Railroad Companyz • AMk S� RESOLUTION NO. 3676 1 [AREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the City 2 Council of the City of Newport Beach, that the Pacific Electric 3 Railway Company has petitioned the Public Utilities Commission of 4 the State of California for the abandonment of its rail passenger 5 line service presently operating in and out of the City of Newport 6 Beach; and 7 4IHERE,AS the resent rail p passenger service so furnished 8 by Pacific Electric Railway Company is entirely inadequate to meet 9 the public convenience; and 10 - HEREAS, Pacific Electric Railway Company proposes to 11 substitute motor coach passenger service in lieu of passenger rail 12 service, which motor coach passenger service will even less adequate 13 ly meet the public needs than the present rail passenger service; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, the railway tracks, over which said passenger and 16 freight service presently travels, run along and divide one of the 17 principal streets of the City of Newport Beach and thereby creates 18 a congestion of public traffic; 19 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the 20 City of Newport Beach that it is the sense of said City Council that 21 the application of the Pacific Electric Raili;ray Company to abandon 22 its resent p passenger rail service be denied; and 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all appropriate steps be taken 24 to compel Pacific Electric Railway Company to institute and provide 25 for more frequent and more adequate rail passenger service to and 26 from the City of Newport Beach; and 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if Pacific Electric Railway 18 Company is permitted to withdraw its p Y P present rail passenger service 29 to and from the City of Newport Beach that, in that event, said 30 Pacific Electric Railway Company be required to cease the operation 31 of freight rail service through said streets of the City of Newport 32 Beach and to do all things necessary to make available to the public the full use of said streets. - 1 - • . • Alk 1 2 I 3 4 5' 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 28th day of March, 1949, by the following vote, to wit; AYES, COUNCILMEN^ Greeley, Robertson, Blue, Isbell and Drake _ NOES, COUNCILMEN None ABSENT COUNCILMEN None ATTEST: Ls/ C.
