RESOLUTION NO. 5395
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ENDORSING ASSEMBLY BILL 1320
WHEREAS, State highway needs in the thirteen Southern
Counties ate substantially in excess of 60% of the State -wide
total; and
WHEREAS, critical traffic congestion and traffic accidents
in Southern California must be alleviated to the greatest extent
possible; and
WHEREAS, the economic growth and development of Southern
California is dependent upon the construction of an adequate high-
way and freeway system; and
WHEREAS, the thirteen counties comprising Southern Cali-
fornia provide an amount in excess of 60% of the State -wide highway
revenue; and
WHEREAS, the Mayo -Breed Formula allocates only 55% of the
State -wide Highway and Freeway Construction Funds to the South and
thereby curtails urgently needed projects and limits the construe
tion of needed facilities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach endorses Assembly Bill 1320 and the
legislative program to amend the Mayo -Breed Formula to provide a
minimum of 60% of the State Highway Construction Funds to the South,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
sent to the.State Senator and the Assemblymen from Orange County
and to the Southern California Regional Association of County
Supervisors.
