A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING SUBSECTION C OF SECTION VI
OF RESOLUTION NO. 5289 RELATING TO LEAVES OF
ABSENCE
0 WHEREAS, Section VI of Resolution No. 5289 sets out leaves
of absence provisions; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to amend subsection C of said
Section VI relating to holiday leave;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that effective September 1,
1961, subsection C of Section VI of Resolution No. 5289 is amended,
to read:
"C. Holiday Leave. Subject to the provisions.contained
herein, the tolloWibg designated days and such other days
or portions of days specified by motion of the City Council
shall be observed as paid holidays by all employees in
permanent positions except.Police personnel, Fare personnel
on 12 ®hour shifts, and'other personnel whose days off are
other than Saturday or Sunday. For each designated holiday
such personnel shall receive an extra day of vacation or
equivalent pay, whichever in the judgment of the department
head best serves the interests of the department.

February 12 (Lincoln's Birthday)
February 22 (Washington's Birthday)
May 30 (Memorial Day)
July 4 (Independence Day)
First Monday in September (Labor Day)
September 9 (Admission Day)
October 12 (Columbus Day)
November 11 (Veterans' Day)
Fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving Day)
December 25 (Christmas)
Statewide election days
When a designated holiday occurs on Sunday, the follow-
ing Monday will be observed instead: When a designated
holiday occurs on a Saturday, such holiday shall not be ob-
served and no employee shall receive additional vacation
or pay for such holiday.
It is the intent of this subsection that all City em-
ployees in permanent positions.receive the benefits of the
same number of holidays each year."
