HomeMy WebLinkAbout6168 - Newport Beach Inland Corridor0 0 i i RESOLUTION NO. 6168 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 2 NEWPORT BEACH STATING ITS POSITION WITH RESPECT TO A NEW COASTAL FREEWAY ROUTE KNOWN AS THE 3 NEWPORT BEACH INLAND CORRIDOR 4 5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach 6 has consistently expressed its opposition to the coastal freeway 7 route adopted by the California Highway Commission on May 22, 8 1963; and 9 WHEREAS, the City Council has attempted to work with all 10 11 interested public agencies in order to develop an acceptable 12 compromise route; and 13 WHEREAS, the City Council has learned that a possibility 14 exists that the California Highway Commission may restudy the 15 issue of the location of the coastal freeway route; and 16 WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert E. Badham has provided leader - 17 ship in attempting to develop a compromise route which would be 18 19 acceptable to the City of Newport Beach and other interested public 20 agencies; and 21 WHEREAS, as a result of the effort to develop a com- 22 promise route, an alternate freeway corridor has evolved which 23 would change the freeway route to a location entirely within the 24 City of Newport Beach and unincorporated territory; and 25 WHEREAS, said freeway corridor has been referred to as 26 27 the "Newport Beach Inland Corridor" and is shown on the attached 28 drawing; and 29 WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the proposed 30 "Newport Beach Inland Corridor ", it is the opinion of the City 31 Council that said proposal would provide a workable alternative to 32 the adopted coastal freeway route and would better serve the -1- u C 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 191 20 21 22' 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 interests of the general public; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the City would accept the "Newport Beach Inland Corridor" as a more favorable route than the adopted coastal freeway alignment, subject to favorable engineering studies and refinement.
