IESOLUTION NO. 6232
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIM CITY OF
NMTFORT BEACH DECLARING A DAY OF COI,Z'MfO TION
OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MCFADDEN V-gARF AND
THE BEGINNING OF T:I3 CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
WHEREAS, in 1888 a wharf was constructed by James and
Robert mcradden at a location which is now Newport Fier; and
1,7f-MMS, this wharf was connected to a railroad which ran
into the hinterlands; and
t7IiEP..r. IS, this i-harf was a shipping center which served
Crange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties; and
WEMEAS, this site became the nucleus from which the City
of Newport Beach developed;
NOT -T, TI-L'3I OELE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Newport Beach City
Council does hereby declare October 1, 1965, as a day of commemora-
tion of the construction of the original I.ZcFadden Wharf and the
beginning of the City of Newport Beach.
BE IT FEIN "HM RESOLVED that in recognition of the histor-
ical significance of the McFadden tTharf a dedication ceremony s?7.all
be held on the aforesaid date.
ADOPTED this 27th day of September, 1965.
