RESOLUTION NO. 6349
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH COMMIENDING DR. ARNOLD 0. BECFMAN
ON HIS SELECTION AS ORANGE COUNTY.MANAGER OF
THE. YEAR
WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold 0. Beckman founded the company known
as Beckman Instruments, Inc., in 1935, and that company has main-
tained its principal operations in Orange County since 1954; and
WHEREAS, the number of Beckman employees in Orange County
has grown from 700 to some 3,500 in that 12 -year period and the
company's sales have increased from $20 million to more than $115
million annually; and
WHEREAS, Beckman Instruments, Inc., stands today as one
of the world's leading producers of advanced instrumentation for
science, medicine and industry; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the
Purchasing Agents' Association of Orange County, the Sales and Mar-
keting Executives Club of Orange County, Inc., and the Orange
Coast Chapter, Society for the Advancement of Management have
established the Annual Manager of the Year Award to recognize out-
standing managerial performance and community service and Dr.
Beckman is the third individual to receive this award; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is particularly proud that Dr.
Beckman is a resident of the City of Newport Beach;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this City Council go
on record officialiy as commending Dr. Beckman on his selection as
Orange County Manager of the Year for 1966 and the aforementioned
organizations for establishing and maintaining the said Award which
serves each year to focus attention on Orange County and those indi-
viduals responsible for its continuing evolution as a community of
quality and di.st�inction.
