RESOLUTION N0, 6776
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING ITS POLICY CONCERNING
THE USE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ORANGE COUNTY
AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the Orange County Airport is located adjacent

to the northerly boundary of the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, aircraft using the airport pass over the City
at low altitudes which disturbs the peace and quiet of a sub-
stantial number of residents of the City; and
WHEREAS, this area over which the planes pass is of
peculiar value, being related to the priceless natural resource
of Newport Bay, and consequently cannot be moved or duplicated
elsewhere, and
WHEREAS, in recent years there has been an accelerated
rate of increase in the use of the airport, particularly by com-
mercial aircraft, which has created an intolerable noise level
in certain sections of the City to the distress of the residents
and has caused a severe decline in property values, and
WHEREAS, the City Council feels obligated to publicly
express its position concerning the use and development of the
Orange County Airport,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
that the following points be adopted as the policy of the City
concerning the use and development of the Orange County Airport-
1. The Council opposes any further southerly expansion
of the runways for active use.
20 The Council opposes any increase in the number of
air carriers and the number of jet aircraft flights allowed
to use the airport,
3. The Council opposes any increase in the existing
95,000 pounds gross aircraft weight limitation,
4. The Council opposes any expansion of runways to
the north, except for the limited purpose of allowing take-
off operations.

S. The Council opposes the use of Orange County Air-
port for pure jet commercial purposes.
6. The Council urges that the appropriate officials
and agencies of Orange County and the Federal Government
give top priority to the acquisition and development of a
suitable new commercial airport in order to correct the
present intolerable noise situation in the City of Newport
Beach.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
shall be sent to members of the Orange County Board of Super-
visors, members of the Orange County Airport Commission, Assem-
blyman Robert Badham, and Senator John Schmitz.
ADOPTED this 20th day of May, 1968.

do hereby certify that according to the records of the City of Newport Beach
filed and maintained in my office, the foregoing Resolution No. 6776 was
duly and regularly adopted, passed, and approved by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach, California, at a regular meeting of said City Council
held at the regular meeting place thereof, on the 20th day of May 1967,
by the following vote, to wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: McInnis, Shelton, Marshall, Rogers, Hirth
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None
ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: parsons, Gruber
