HomeMy WebLinkAbout6829 - Certificate of Public Convenience & Necessity3 Y THSBmec 7/19/68 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that it is strongly opposed to the approval of the application of Skybus, Inc., for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to operate a commuter air service from Orange County Airport, and respectfully requests that the Public Utilities Commission deny said application for the following reasons: a. There is no established need for any additional commuter service at the present time. There are presently two commuter airlines which are providing service between Orange County Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. These existing commuter services are adequately serving the public. b. The equipment which Skybus, Inc., proposes to use, e.g., the Lockheed Super Constellation, is a relatively old type of aircraft which was not designed for short -trip RESOLUTION NO. 6829 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE APPLICATION OF SKYBUS, INC., BEFORE THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR A CERTIFICATE OF PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND _- NECESSITY WHEREAS, the Orange County Airport is located adjacent to the northerly boundary of the City of Newport Beach; and WHEREAS, the City Council is vitally interested in the use and development of the Orange County Airport; and WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council that Skybus, Inc., has applied to the Public Utilities Commission for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to operate commuter flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Orange County Airport; and WHEREAS, after considering and evaluating said appli- cation, the City Council has determined that its approval would be contrary to the best interests of the City of Newport Beach and the general public; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that it is strongly opposed to the approval of the application of Skybus, Inc., for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to operate a commuter air service from Orange County Airport, and respectfully requests that the Public Utilities Commission deny said application for the following reasons: a. There is no established need for any additional commuter service at the present time. There are presently two commuter airlines which are providing service between Orange County Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. These existing commuter services are adequately serving the public. b. The equipment which Skybus, Inc., proposes to use, e.g., the Lockheed Super Constellation, is a relatively old type of aircraft which was not designed for short -trip commuter service which would aggravate the existing intolerable • noise problem. C. The proposed operations by Skybus, Inc., would not _- be in keeping with the recent findings of the Pereira Master Plan Study of the airport which was recently completed.
