2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT A
3 LOCAL MIRGEECY..EXISTS WHICH CONSTITUTES A
STATE OF LIMITED PERIL AND REQUESTING THAT
4 THE COUNTY.OF ORANGE.PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR
THE DURATION OF THE EMERGENCY

6 WHEREAS, the public beach in the western part of the
7 City of Newport Beach has undergone severe erosion during the past
8 several years despite repeated efforts by the City and the County
9 of Orange to replenish said public beach; and
10 WHEREAS, in recent weeks the erosion has progressed so
11 rapidly and to such an extent that it threatens to expose the
12 residences located adjacent to the beach to destruction by the
13 surf; and
14 WHEREAS, unusually high tides are anticipated in the
15 next several days; and
16 WHEREAS, emergency measures are essential for the
17 protection of life and property in the threatened area; and
18 WHEREAS, a state of local emergency and threatened
19 disaster exists in the City as a result of the threat to life and
20 property caused by the erosion of the beach;
21 NCW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
22 1. The City Council hereby finds and determines that
23 a local emergency exists in the City as a result of the continued
24 erosion of the public beach in the western part of the City and
25 that in the judgment of the City Council this condition consti-
26 tutes a limited peril within the meaning of that term as defined
27 in Section 31.022 of the Codified Ordinances of Lhe County of Oran
28 2. The City Council of the City of Newport Beach
29 hereby requests that the County of Orange make available necessary
30 personnel, supplies and equipment to aid the City in dealing with
31 said local emergency.

filed and maintained in my office, the foregoing Resolution No. 6858 was
duly and regularly adopted, passed, and approved by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach, California, at a regular meeting of said City Council
held at the regular meeting place thereof, on the 19th day of August , 1968,
by the following vote, to wit:

NOES, COUNCILMEN:
