A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING ITS CONCERN ABOUT THE
CONSIDERATION OF THE POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT OF A
REGIONAL AIRPORT IN THE VICINITY OF SAN JOAQUIN
HILLS
WHEREAS, the report entitled "Phase I. Master Plan of
Air Transportation," prepared by William Lo Pereira & Associates,
refers to five potential regional airport sites in Orange County,
including a site in the San Joaquin Hills between Corona del Mar
and Laguna Beach; and
WHEREAS, the noise and air pollution generated by the
operation of the existing Orange County Airport is interfering
with the enjoyment of their property by a substantial number of
Newport Beach residents; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Airport Commission has sche-
duled a public hearing to give preliminary consideration to the
San Joaquin Hills site; and
WHEREAS, development of a regional airport at the San
Joaquin Hills site would create a second airport in close proximity
to the City of Newport Beach, which could adversely affect the
City; and
WHEREAS, development of a regional airport at the San
Joaquin Hills site would be in conflict with the adopted Orange
County Master Plan;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the City Council wishes to express
• its concern about the consideration of the San Joaquin Hills site
as a location for the regional airport;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges the
Orange County Airport Commission and the Orange County Board of
Supervisors to give thorough consideration to all of the proposed
sites, and to give special attention to the possible detrimental
• effect that the development of an airport at the San Joaquin Hills
site might have on the City of Newport Beach.
