RESOLUTION NO. 6 OG
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
• NEWPORT BEACH ENDORSING PROPOSITION 7 WHICH WOULD
AUTHORIZE THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO PROVIDE THAT
MONEY ALLOCATED FROM THE STATE GENERAL FUND TO
ANY COUNTY OR CITY MAY BE USED FOR LOCAL PURPOSES
WHEREAS, the State Constitution now prohibits the Legis-
lature from allocating money to counties or cities for local
purposes; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 7, if adopted, would authorize the
Legislature to allocate money from the General Fund of the state
to any county or city for county or city purposes as well as for
state purposes; and
WHEREAS, the effect of the present law is to create
pressure to increase property taxes; and
WHEREAS, this City Council believes that passage of
Proposition 7 is an essential step toward tax reform in
California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that it endorses Proposition 7 and
urges a YES vote on said proposition at the election to be held
on November S, 1968.
