A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING LEGISLATION FOR
• AN INCREASE IN THE EXISTING TAX LIMIT OF THE
ORANGE COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, recent storm damage incurred by the Orange
County Flood Control System may necessitate large unplanned
financial expenditures; and
WHEREAS, the existing tax rate limit of twenty cents
will not yield sufficient revenue to provide for repairs and
for carrying out planned flood control projects throughout the
County; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Orange County
on March 25, 1969, voted to seek state legislation authorizing
a raise in the tax ceiling of the Orange County Flood Control
District to repair damage and improve flood control facilities;
and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Division of the League of
California Cities has been requested to support such legislation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Newport
Beach does support the Board of Supervisors of Orange County
in seeking legislation to increase the tax limit for flood
control expenditures;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such increase be limited
to not more than ten cents per $100 assessed valuation on the
County tax rate for three years, and to not more than five cents
per $100 assessed valuation on the County tax rate after three
years.
