HomeMy WebLinkAbout7111 - Pacific Coast FreewayRESOLUTION NO. 7 111 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA FOR A . STUDY OF THE FEASIBILITY OF MAKING A MINOR READJUSTMENT IN THE ADOPTED ROUTE OF THE PACIFIC COAST FREEWAY WHEREAS, the construction of the Pacific Coast Freeway along the adopted route would create the following major problems in the City of Newport Beach: and 1. It would make it difficult to construct an adequate interchange with both the Newport Freeway and the extension of Balboa Boulevard; 2. It will sever the Mariners Mile Business District and cause a loss of the off - street parking necessary to serve those businesses which remain; 3. The utility of Pacific Coast Highway as an arterial highway will be seriously impaired; 4. It would unreasonably restrict access in the West Newport area; WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa - Newport Beach Cooperation Committee, composed of two City Councilmen and one Planning Commissioner from each city, has been instrumental in developing a spirit of cooperation between the two cities in solving their mutual problems; and WHEREAS, the Newport Beach City Council is convinced that the Highway Commission should restudy the adopted route of the Pacific Coast Freeway in an effort to resolve the above described problems; Ah NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of 7 the City of Newport Beach hereby requests the support of the -1- City of Costa Mesa for the requested study of said problems by the Highway Commission, which study should include an evaluation of the feasibility of a minor readjustment in the adopted route of the Pacific Coast Freeway, said adjusted alignment to be entirely within the boundaries of the City of Newport Beach.
