• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REAFFIRMING ITS OPPOSITION
TO THAT PORTION OF THE PROPOSED PACIFIC COAST
• FREEWAY WITHIN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has appeared before
the California State Highway Commission on four occasions to
request an alternate route for the Pacific Coast Freeway in the
City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has heretofore
refused to sign a Freeway Agreement on that portion of the adopted
route of the Pacific Coast Freeway between the Santa Ana River
and the Upper Bay crossing; and
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert E. Badham has now pending
before the California State Legislature a bill designed to remove
from the State Freeway System that portion of the Pacific Coast
Freeway lying within the City of Newport Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach hereby reaffirms its opposition to that
portion of the Pacific Coast Freeway westerly of the Upper Bay
crossing; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach hereby reaffirms its refusal to sign a
Freeway Agreement until a route, satisfactory to the City of Newport
Beach, has been approved by the State Highway Commission.
