HomeMy WebLinkAbout7279 - Representation on Regional Governmental Agenciest i • RESOLUTION NO. 7279 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CONCERNING REPRESENTATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ON REGIONAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES WHEREAS, the proliferation of problems which cut across the traditional boundaries of local governmental entities has necessitated the creation of regional govern- mental agencies which overlap existing cities and counties; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature has given indications that it will increasingly resort to the creation of such regional governmental agencies in the future; and WHEREAS, if local government is to retain its vitality it must be represented on such regional governmental agencies by elected Mayors, City Councilmen and County Super- visors; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the public that strong and effective local representation be maintained on the governing bodies of such regional governmental agencies; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the following statement of principles be adopted: 1. The governing bodies of all regional agencies which exercise powers or have jurisdiction within the boundaries of cities and counties should be all local elected officials; i.e., Mayors, Councilmen and County Supervisors. • 2. All the meetings of such regional governmental agencies should be held within territory over which each has jurisdiction. 40 -1- • 3. There shall be reasonable monetary reimbursement from such regional governmental agency for services and expenses of representatives while serving on a regional governing board.
