HomeMy WebLinkAbout7282 - Beach Volleyball Playing Areas• 0, • RESOLUTION NO. 7 2 S 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 6539 WHICH ESTABLISHED REGULATIONS CONTROLLING THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF VOLLEYBALL PLAYING AREAS ON THE PUBLIC OCEAN FRONT BEACHES IN THE CITY WHEREAS, Resolution No. 6539 dated March 27, 1967, established regulations controlling the installation and main- tenance of volleyball playing areas only on the public ocean front beaches in the City of Newport Beach; and WHEREAS, by reason of complaints arising out of the growing use of the bay beaches for volleyball playing, it has been determined that the bay beaches should be included in those areas where volleyball playing is governed by City regulations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach as follows: SECTION 1. Resolution No. 6539 dated March 27, 1967, is hereby rescinded. SECTION 2. The public ocean front and bay beaches are hereby divided into five volleyball playing zones which are identified as follows: ZONE ONE shall be the area between the Santa Ana River and Orange Avenue; ZONE TWO shall be the area between Orange Avenue and Newport Pier; ZONE THREE shall be the area between the Newport Pier and the West Jetty; ZONE FOUR shall be the main beach at Corona del Mar State and City Beach Park; ZONE FIVE shall be all the public beaches fronting on the waters of the Newport Bay. SECTION 3. No volleyball courts shall be installed within fifty feet (501) of a private property line in any of the five volleyball playing zones established herein. -1- SECTION 4. All volleyball courts installed and main - tained within Zone Two shall be at least eight hundred feet (800') apart. • SECTION 5. All volleyball courts located in any of the zones established herein shall be installed and maintained exclusively by the City Department of Parks, Beaches & Recreation. SECTION 6. Any volleyball courts in existence on the date of adoption of this resolution shall be considered non- conforming and may be removed at the discretion of the Parks, Beaches & Recreation Director after the expiration of thirty (30) days following the adoption of this resolution.
