A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES
• COMMISSION TO DENY THE APPLICATION OF HOLIDAY
AIRLINES, INC., FOR AUTHORITY TO ADD ORANGE
COUNTY AIRPORT TO ITS EXISTING AUTHORITY TO
SERVE THE TAHOE VALLEY AIRPORT
WHEREAS, Holiday Airlines, Inc., has applied to the
Public Utilities Commission of the State of-California for
authority to add Orange County Airport and San Diego International
Airport, Lindberg Field, to its existing authority to serve the
Tahoe Valley Airport; and
WHEREAS, noise levels produced by existing operations
at Orange County Airport have caused substantial impairment of
residential property values in sections of the City of Newport
Beach underlying the flight path of the airport, which has
resulted in the filing of more than $27,000,000 in damage claims
against the County of Orange, the airport proprietor; and
WHEREAS, the existing terminal facilities at the Orange
County Airport are totally inadequate to accommodate any new
passenger service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that it hereby urges the Public
Utilities Commission to deny the application of Holiday Airlines,
Inc., to provide service from the Orange County Airport, on the
ground that the approval of said application would be contrary
to the public interest.
