A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH OPPOSING NOVEMBER 1970 BALLOT
• PROPOSITION 18 REGARDING USE OF GAS TAX FUNDS
FOR TRANSPORTATION PURPOSES
WHEREAS State Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 18
appearing on the November 3, 1970 ballot as Proposition 18,
will permit diversion of already insufficient highway funds
from our street construction and maintenance program; and
WHEREAS capital funding for public transit should
not precede determination of needs; and
WHEREAS funds for air pollution research and control
are currently being provided by other measures; and
WHEREAS the City of Newport Beach would not be
benefitted by passage of this constitutional amendment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does voice its opposition to
Proposition 18 on the November, 1970 ballot
ADOPTED this 19th day of October, 1970.
