A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH REAFFIRMING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE
ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT LAND USE COMMISSION, AND
URGING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO
PROVIDE THE COMMISSION WITH MEANINGFUL FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE
iWHEREAS, state legislation was enacted in 1967 providing for
the formation of airport land use commissions in the counties of the
state; and
WHEREAS, this legislation was sponsored and overwhelmingly
supported by the Orange County Division of the League of California
Cities and the City of.Newport Beach, in order to provide a vehicle
for cities and counties to work cooperatively in this important area of
land use planning; and
WHEREAS, prior to the enactment of this legislation numerous
proposals were introduced into the Legislature each year which would
have removed the land use regulatory authority of cities adjacent to
airports because of the number of jurisdictional conflicts that have
arisen relating to airport development, safety, noise, and compatible
land use; and
WHEREAS, the present land use commission statute provides an
opportunity for cities, counties and public airport proprietors to
work cooperatively in this important area of planning;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach as follows;
1. That the Orange County Board of Supervisors should meet
the spirit and intent of state legislative mandate and provide the
Commission with meaningful budgetary support to employ competent pro-
fessional personnel to properly complete the master planning assignment
it has been given; and
2. That the Orange County Division of the League of California
• Cities is urged to reaffirm its support for the Commission.
