RESOLUTION NO. 7537
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO ENTER
INTO A CONTRACT WITH THE COUNTY OF ORANGE IN
CONNECTION WITH THE PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (PEP)
WHEREAS, on July 12, 1971, President Nixon signed into
law the Emergency Employment Act of 1971, establishing the
Public Employment Program (PEP); and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Act is to provide unemployed
persons with transitional jobs providing needed public services
during times of high unemployment; and
WHEREAS, the County of Orange has been designated by
the Department of Labor as the Program Agent for the City of
Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the County of Orange has set aside $54,300, which
represents 90% funding, to finance the City's participation in
this program, with the City's 10% contribution to be in supervision,
training and administrative time; and
WHEREAS, in order to participate in the program and to
receive and expend said funding, it will be necessary to enter
into a contract with the County of Orange as the Program Agent
under the Department of Labor, and it has been determined that it
would be desirable and in the public interest to do so;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that it hereby expresses its intention
to enter into a contract with the County of Orange as Program
Agent for the City of Newport Beach, for the purpose of partici-
pating in the Public Employment Program (PEP) described above;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby
authorized and directed to execute said contract on behalf of
the City of Newport Beach.
