Harold Thompson owned and operated a small corner market until a new super market was opened across the street from his small business. Initially, I leased the property from Mr. Thompson for a small coin - operated laundry, which has been in business for approximately Forty Five years, with City of Newport Beach approvals and a Business Licenses renewed annually. During the prior Planning Department hearing and subsequent City Council Hearing regarding a Zoning question, a City Councilman mentioned that the City had made a mistake by including the subject property and placing the Zoning question on the Councils' Agenda for Public Hearing purposes. The Coin Laundry produces a substantial amount of my income which I have relied on for many years and its closure would create a substantial hardship on both me and my family. Approximately Ninety Five (950) percent of Coin - Operated Laundries are no longer doing business in the City of Newport Beach due to an 1,800% percent increase in Sewer Fees added to Property Tax Bills by the Orange County Sanitation District. I will not be able to appear at the Hearing on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 7 :00 p.m. due to a back injury. V y truly yours, Pete Fenton
