HomeMy WebLinkAbout7686 - Coastal Corridor Review BoardRESOLUTION NO. 7686 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF AB 1837 INTRODUCED BY ASSEMBLYMAN ROBERT H. BURKE 10 REGARDING THE CREATION OF A COASTAL CORRIDOR REVIEW BOARD WHEREAS, AB 1837, introduced by Assemblyman Robert H. Burke, would create a Coastal Corridor Review Board to study Route 1, between the Santa Ana River and the Orange -Los Angeles County line; and WHEREAS, the Board is required to submit a consulting engineer's report, together with its recommendations, to the Legislature by January 10, 1975; and WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert E. Badham has already intro- duced AB 1322, calling for the deletion of the Pacific Coast Freeway through the City of Newport Beach; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach has gone on record as unanimously endorsing and supporting AB 1322; and WHEREAS, AB 1322 is responsive and meaningful to the immediate needs of the citizens of Newport Beach; and WHEREAS, AB 1837 is in direct conflict with the expressed purposes of Assemblyman Badham's proposed legislation, AB 1322; and WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach can no longer endure the confusion and uncertainty which has existed for over 10 years with regard to this matter, and cannot wait until 1975 for the re- sults of another study and report which may not provide any benefit to the City in solving the problem of the coastal freeway in Newport Beach; introduced by Assemblyman Robert H. Burke. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to transmit -1- NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does voice its opposition to AB 1837 introduced by Assemblyman Robert H. Burke. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to transmit -1- I a certified copy of this resolution to Assemblyman Robert H. Burke, Assemblyman Robert E. Badham, Senator Dennis E. Carpenter, Assembly Transportation Committee, the Senate Transportation Committee, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, the Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy ( "Little Hoover" Commis- sion), the State Highway Commission, the Orange County Road Com- missioner and the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
