A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE PASSAGE OF AB 1322
INTRODUCED BY ASSEMBLYMAN ROBERT E. BADHAM
CALLING FOR THE DELETION OF THE PACIFIC COAST
FREEWAY THROUGH THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach by
Resolution No. 7640 requested Assemblyman Robert E. Badham to author
and introduce appropriate legislation to delete the proposed Route 1
of the California Freeway System through the City of Newport Beach;
and
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert E. Badham has introduced
Assembly Bill 1322 calling for the deletion of the Pacific Coast
Freeway through the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1322 is responsive and meaningful
to the immediate needs of the citizens of Newport Beach, who on
March 9, 1971, at a special election called for that purpose, over-
whelmingly demonstrated by their vote that the proposed route of the
Pacific Coast Freeway through Newport Beach was absolutely and
unequivocably unacceptable;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach DOES ENDORSE, SUPPORT AND URGE the passage
of Assembly Bill 1322, introduced by Assemblyman Robert E. Badham;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit a certified copy of this
Resolution to Assemblyman Robert E. Badham, Senator Dennis E.
Carpenter, the members of the Assembly Transportation Committe, the
members of the Senate Transportation Committee, the members of the
Assembly Ways and Means Committee, the Commission on California State
itGovernment Organization and Economy ( "Little Hoover" Commission), the
State Highway Commission, the Orange County Road Commissioner, the
Orange County Board of Supervisors, and the City Councils of the

Cities of Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach, and
Seal Beach.
