HomeMy WebLinkAbout7729 - Efforts to Environmentally Enhance TransportationRESOLUTION NO. 7729 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH SETTING FORTH ITS INTENTION TO SET ASIDE A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THE ADDITIONAL MONIES RECEIVED FROM THE ONE PER- CENT SALES TAX ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE SALE OF GASOLINE FOR COORDINATED COUNTY -WIDE EFFORTS TO ENVIRONMENTALLY ENHANCE TRANSPORTATION WHEREAS, the 1972 State Legislature adopted Senate Bill No. 325 providing that the existing State sales tax shall be ap- plicable to the sale of gasoline; and WHEREAS, the County of Orange and all cities within the County shall receive additional sales tax revenue effective July 1, 1972, because the one percent local sales tax will apply to the sale of gasoline, which was heretofore exempt from sales tax; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach desires these monies to be used locally for coordinated County- wide efforts to improve the environment of this County, which will benefit all citizens of the County of Orange; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors, by Resolution dated March 28, 1972, has agreed that the County's extra funds will be set aside for such purposes and shall be mutually agreed upon by the County and the cities of the County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council will set aside a substan- tial amount of extra funds received through sales tax on gasoline, to be used for environmental purposes. SECTION 2. To go on record in support of joint efforts among the County and all Orange County cities regarding improvement 40 of the environment in the County, particularly as it concerns transportation. -1- ADOPTED this 26TH day of Jame , 1972.
