A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING ITS IN-
TENTION TO INITIATE AN AMENDMENT TO
ORDINANCE NO. 1370 TO REDUCE THE RESIDENT
DENSITY OF THE VERSAILLES PROJECT, AND
INSTRUCTING THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO
SET A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER SAID
AMENDMENT, AND FURTHER INSTRUCTING THE
PLANNING COMMISSION TO DETERMINE THE
PROPER DENSITY FOR SAID PROJECT
WHEREAS, on August 14, 1972, the City Council at a
public hearing considered the`appeal of Donald Scholz from a
denial by the Planning Commission in granting a use permit to
construct Phase II of the Versailles -on- the - Bluffs project
(P.C. Ordinance No. 1370); and
WHEREAS, at said public hearing it was determined that
the resident density of the Versailles project was incompatible
with the City Council's General Plan policy statement, with the
surrounding traffic conditions, with the general nature, use and
character of the surrounding area, and could be a detriment
to the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of
Newport Beach due to certain changed conditions not in existence
when the Versailles project was approved; and
WHEREAS, Section 20.54.020(b) of the Newport Beach
n _ Municipal Code authorizes the City Council to initiate a zone

°: '" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of

04 u$he City of Newport Beach hereby declares, pursuant to Section

r�20.54.020(b) of the Newport Beach Municipal Code, its intention
initiate an amendment to Ordinance No. 1370, and instructs
the Planning Commission to set a public hearing on September 7,
1972, to consider said amendment, and to determine the appropriate

0 character of the surrounding land use and General Plan policy
