A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING RE- EVALUATION OF
EXISTING OCEAN WATER QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS
IN CONNECTION WITH RECENT PROMULGATION OF A
WATER QUALITY CONTROL PLAN BY THE CALIFORNIA
STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD
WHEREAS, the State Water Resources Control Board has
recently promulgated a Water Quality Control Plan for the ocean
waters of California; and
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Council of the City of Newport Beach that these standards may
vastly increase the cost of treating sewage in the County of
Orange; and
WHEREAS, this City Council is deeply concerned that
these new standards will have a disastrous economic effect on
many industries in the County of Orange;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby join with the Orange
County Sanitation Districts and the Cities of Orange County in
requesting that the standards which have heretofore been adopted
be re- evaluated and that the State Water Resources Control Board
set a new hearing on this matter and consider additional testimony
at said hearing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby di-
rected to send copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Ronald
Reagan, Governor, the State Water Resources Control Board, the
Orange County Sanitation Districts, and all Cities in Orange
County.
