RESOLUTION NO. 8065
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH HONORING THE 25TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE NEWPORT HARBOR ENSIGN
WHEREAS, Arvo and Peg Haapa founded the Newport
Harbor Ensign 25 years ago on August 13, 1948; and
WHEREAS, the Ensign has served the City of Newport
Beach and the Harbor area throughout the years in the best
tradition of American journalism as a community weekly news-
paper; and
WHEREAS, the newspaper has actively joined in the
free discussion of local issues of importance to all Newport
Beach residents; and
WHEREAS, the Ensign has striven to provide consis-
tently objective reporting of City Council and other City
government meetings; and
WHEREAS, the Ensign will mark its 25th Anniversary
with a special edition on August 16 recounting much of the
history that it has recorded in Newport Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this City Council
and the City of Newport Beach officially salute the Haapas and
their staff for their accomplishments over the years, and wish
them continued success in providing Newport Beach with a fine
community newspaper.
