A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING TOWING CHARGES,
STORAGE RATES AND AFTER HOURS RELEASE FEES
FOR OFFICIAL POLICE TOW TRUCK SERVICES, AND
REPEALING RESOLUTION NOS. 8142 AND 8464
• WHEREAS, on November 26, 1973, the City Council
adopted Resolution No. 8142, establishing towing charges and
storage rates for official police tow truck services; and
WHEREAS, said Resolution was amended on April 14, 1975
by Resolution No. 8464 which established increased towing
charges and storage rates; and
WHEREAS, Section 5.15.060 of the Newport Beach Municipal
Code provides that the City and the "Official Police Towing
Service" may review and revise the subject fee schedule by
mutual agreement at anytime upon finding the existing rates are
inequitable; and
WHEREAS, the Official Police Towing Service (Harbor
and Coast Towing Companies) has submitted a request to add an
additional charge to the fee schedule established by Resolution
No. 8464 for after business hours openings to inspect or release
vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed said request
and found it to be equitable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby establishes the following
towing charges and storage rates:
"TOWING CHARGES. Towing charges shall be based
on an hourly rate or percentage thereof thereafter
based on time actually consumed with a maximum
charge of:
$23.50 for the first hour;
$30.00 for the first hour when a heavy
truck is required;
$12.50 additional charge when tow dollies
are needed.

STORAGE RATES. Storage rates shall not exceed:
Passenger automobiles and 3/4 ton
pickups - $3.00 per day;
Trucks over 3/4 ton $3.50 per day;
Motorcycles - $2.00 per day.
Storage rates shall be computed from 12:00 midnight
to 12:00 midnight, based on the actual time the
vehicle is stored."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that:
1. Business hours are established as 7:00 a.m. to
9:00 p.m., seven days a week.
2. The after business hours opening for inspection
or release of vehicles is established at $5.00.
3. Vehicles will be released without a release fee
(regardless of the hour) when the release or inspection
request occurs within a twelve -hour period from actual
storage or impound.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8142 and
and Resolution No. 8464 are hereby repealed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to retain this fee schedule on file to be made available
to interested citizens upon request and to forward a copy thereof
to the Official Police Towing Service companies.
