A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO ANY
MODIFICATION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT NOISE
STANDARDS VARIANCE AND INSISTING ON STRICT
COMPLIANCE WITH THE CURFEW REGULATIONS
WHEREAS, effective January 1, 1975, the County of
Orange was granted a variance from the requirements of the
Noise Standards for the operation of California airports; and
WHEREAS, one of the conditions attached to the variance
provides that the County shall continue to implement its 15
element noise abatement program; and
WHEREAS, a curfew between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and
7:00 A.M. for the operation of all jet aircraft is a very important
part of the 15 element noise abatement program; and
WHEREAS, the'City Council has historically opposed
any proposal which would lead to any increase in the use of the
Orange County Airport by jet aircraft and has consistently
insisted on strict adherence to the curfew regulations; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to go on record in
favor of strict compliance with all of the conditions of the
variance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach is absolutely opposed to any modifi-
cation of the terms and conditions attached to the Noise Standards
Variance issued to the Orange County Airport which would permit
increased usage of that facility by jet aircraft;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council must
• insist that the curfew regulations be strictly enforced and that
no waiver or exemption therefrom be granted to any jet aircraft
using the Orange County Airport.
