A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING TOW
CHARGES, STORAGE RATES AND AFTER HOURS
RELEASE FEES FOR OFFICIAL POLICE TOW TRUCK
fe SERVICES, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO.
8491
WHEREAS, on May 12, 1975, the City Council adopted
Resolution No. 8491 establishing towing charges and storage
rates for official police tow truck services; and
WHEREAS, Section 5.15.060 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code provides that the City and the "Official Police
Towing Service" may review and revise the subject fee schedule
by mutual agreement at anytime upon finding the existing rates
are inequitable; and
WHEREAS, the Official Police Towing Service (Harbor
and Coast Towing Companies) has submitted a request to increase
the towing charges and storage rates based on the continuing
rise in the cost of doing business; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed said request
and found it to be equitable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby establishes the following
towing charges and storage rates:
"TOWING CHARGES. Towing charges shall be based
per tow truck, on an hourly rate or percentage thereof
on time actually consumed with a minimum charge of:
$26.00 for towing vehicles under one ton;
• $15.00 additional charge when dollies are needed;
$35.00 when a heavy truck is required
STORAGE RATES. Storage rates shall not exceed:
$3.50 per day for automobiles and 3/4 ton trucks;

$7.00 per day for vehicles rated one ton and over;
$2.50 per day for motorcycles.
Storage rates shall be computed from midnight to
midnight, based on the actual time the vehicle is stored."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that:
1. Business hours are established as 7:00 A.M. to
9:00 P.M., seven days a week.
2. The after - business hours opening for inspection
or release of vehicles is established at $5.00.
3. Vehicles will be released without a release fee
(regardless of the hour) when the release or inspection request
occurs within a twelve -hour period from actual storage or impound.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8491 is
hereby repealed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to retain this fee schedule on file to be made available
to interested citizens upon request and to forward a copy thereof
to the Official Police Towing Service companies.
