A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
• OF NEWPORT BEACH COMMENDING RAYMOND L. WATSON
OF THE IRVINE COMPANY FOR HIS SERVICES TO THE
COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, during the past two decades the City of
Newport Beach has incorporated within its city limits large
portions of the Irvine Ranch; and
WHEREAS, the planning and development of Irvine
Company property, such as the residential areas of Westcliff
and Dover Shores, the Villages of Bayside, Eastbluff and
Harbor View, and the community of Big Canyon, has brought
honor and distinction to this City and has provided its citizens
with a living environment unique to any other in the nation;
and
WHEREAS, the commercial development on Irvine Company
land of Newport Center with its Fashion Island Shopping Complex,
has brought to the citizens of Newport Beach a fine center for
shopping, business and finance, medical treatment, dining and
recreation, while at the same time making a major contribution
to the City's revenues; and
WHEREAS, through The Irvine Company's concern for
planning, development and property management, the City of
Newport Beach has undergone a transition from a resort village
to a self- contained City while gaining notable distinction
throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, during a period of 17 years, Raymond L. Watson,
first as Planner, then as Director of Development and finally
as President of The Irvine Company was primarily responsible
for the vision that created this development; and

WHEREAS, Raymond L. Watson is retiring from his
position as President of The Irvine Company to establish a
new career;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby extend to Raymond L. Watson
its appreciation and its gratitude for the leadership role he
has played in helping guide the development of this City, and
further wishes Raymond L. Watson well in all his future endeavors.
