A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING CIVIL SERVICE RULES
AND REGULATIONS SECTIONS 501.2.1(d),
501.2.3.1(d)(2), and 501.2.3.1(d)(3) ALLOWING
LATERAL RECRUITMENT
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Civil Service Board is
recommending that Section 501.2.1(d) of the Civil Service Rules
and Regulations be amended to add the following language:
"Examination announcements for the continuous
testing of lateral entry police officer positions
shall not contain a final date for submitting appli-
cations. ";and
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Civil Service Board is
also recommending that Section 501. 2. 3.1(d)(2) be amended to
add the following language:
"Open employment lists for lateral entry police
officer shall remain in effect indefinitely unless
vacated by the Civil Service Board. "; and
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Civil Service Board is
also recommending that Section 501.2.3.1(d)(3) be amended to
add the following language:
"(f) In the case of candidates for the position
of lateral entry police officer, one year after their
names are placed on the employment list. "; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the proposed
amendments which will permit lateral recruitment and finds that
such a program would be in the best interest of the City,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby approve the amendments
to Sections 501.2.1(d), 501.2.3.1(d)(2), and 501.2.3.1(d)(3) as
set forth hereinabove.
