HomeMy WebLinkAbout9838 - Special Municipal Election - 11-4-80t "W_ RESOLUTION NO. 9838 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELEC- TION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY ON NOVEMBER 4, 1980, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY A MEASURE RELATING TO AN AMENDMENT TO THE EXISTING FREEWAY AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RELATING TO THE CORONA DEL MAR FREEWAY WHEREAS, under and by virtue of the provisions of the Charter of the City of Newport Beach and the Elections Code of the State of California, the City Council may call a special election; and WHEREAS, a general election is to be held on November 4, 1980; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach desires to submit to the qualified electors of said City a measure relating to an amendment to the existing Freeway Agreement with the State of California relating to the Corona del Mar Freeway; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines it is in the best interest of the City to hold said special election at the same time as the general election to be held on November 4, 1980, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER as follows: SECTION 1. That a special election be and is hereby called in said City on November 4, 1980, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said City a measure • SECTION 2. That on the ballots to be used for said special municipal election, in addition to any other matters required by law, there shall be printed substan- tially the following: Shall the City Council be given the authority, pursuant to the provisions of Section 422 of the Charter of the City of YES Newport Beach, to negotiate and enter into an agreement to amend the existing Route 73 (Corona del Mar) Freeway Agreement in the Bristol Street - Campus Drive - Jamboree Road - MacArthur Boulevard area by providing for design in accordance with current traffic needs and engineering NO standards? SECTION 3., Said Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to issue instructions to the Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of said con- solidated election. SECTION 4. The City of Newport Beach recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such costs. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk of the City of Newport Beach be and is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the Registrar of Voters of the County of Orange.
