HomeMy WebLinkAbout11069 - Handicapped Parking StallsRESOLUTION NO. 11069 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DIRECTING THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER TO DESIGNATE PARKING STALLS FOR THE HANDICAPPED AT VARIOUS CITY -OWNED LOTS AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 9873 WHEREAS, on August 25, 1980, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 9873 establishing two parking stalls for the handicapped in the oceanfront parking lot; and WHEREAS, the Traffic Affairs Committee has recommended that several City -owned lots throughout the City would better provide areas for parking use by the handicapped; and WHEREAS, Section 12.46.030 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code provides that the City Council may direct the Traffic Engineer to designate spaces on City -owned lots for the exclusive use of physically handicapped persons, whose vehicles display a distinguishing placard or license plate, issued pursuant to the California Vehicle Code; and WHEREAS, such designation shall be made by posting a sign immediately adjacent to and visible from each stall or space; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that it is appropriate to designate parking stalls, for exclusive use of physically handicapped persons, at various City -owned lots, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the City Traffic Engineer is hereby directed and authorized to designate parking stalls in • City -owned lots, for the exclusive use of physically handicapped persons, pursuant to Section 12.46.030 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code, at the following locations: Corona del Mar Beach lot; Balboa Pier lot; • McFadden lot; Theater Arts Center; Balboa Library; Corona del Mar library; Mariners Library; Newport Center library; Oasis parking lot; and West Newport Park BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Traffic Engineer shall perform all other duties as required by Section 12.46.030 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code, including the posting of signs and such other means to identify said spaces as are appropriate; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 9873 be and hereby is rescinded.
