RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE
TO INSTALL "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH" WARNING SIGNS
AT APPROVED LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE CITY
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Police Department has
implemented a "Neighborhood Watch Program" whereby private
citizens are encouraged to report, to the police department,
suspicious activities occurring within their neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the posting of signs indicating the presence
of a "Neighborhood Watch" will serve as a deterrent to criminal
activities within the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, said signs shall be installed in conformance
with the minimum standards adopted for said program, and as shown
on a sample prototype attached hereto as Exhibit "A" for
reference herein; and
WHEREAS, said signs shall be the property of the City
of Newport Beach and are to be posted by the City of Newport
Beach; and
WHEREAS, the General Services Department of the City of
Newport Beach has determined that the sum of $13.50 is necessary,
for each such sign, to defray costs in connection with the
implementation and installation thereof; and
• WHEREAS, the Police Department of the City of Newport
Beach has recommended to the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach that the posting of said warning signs would be in the best
interests of the citizens of this City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that Chief of Police of the City of
• Newport Beach, through his duly authorized agent, be and hereby
is authorized and directed to install, at designated locations,
"Neighborhood Watch" signs as further implementation of the
"Neigborhood Watch Program."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the sum of $13.50 shall be
deposited, by any Neighborhood Watch Homeowner's Group or
Association, at the time of application, which funds shall be
forwarded to City's general fund for use in the implementation
and installation thereof.
