A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY C013N.CIL OF THE CITY
• OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE AD'HOC
ELECTION PROCEDURES REVIEW COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the City has recently completed a general
election; and
WHEREAS, during the course of that election the
application of various laws and procedures to the electoral
process were apparent; and
WHEREAS, to improve the electoral process and assure
consistency and expeditious handling in view of changing legal
and procedural requirements, the establishment of a committee to
make recommendations to the City Council is advisable; and
WHEREAS, review at this time will assure consideration
of recommendations and desired implementation prior to the next
general election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the Ad Hoc Election Procedures
Review Committee is hereby created.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the rules of the Committee
shall be as follows:
1. To review all laws and related matters that pertain to
the electoral process such as the City's campaign
financing law, and various charter provisions;
2. Make recommendations with the primary concern to be the
minimization of overlap with State law, consistency, and
elimination of duplication, while maintaining the
•integrity of the system with -recognition of the City's
concern for disclosure and avoidance of conflicts of
interest;
3. The membership of this Committee shall be as follows:

4. The Committee shall act in an advisory capacity;
5. Staff support shall be provided by the City Attorney and
City Clerk.
