RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AND RIVCON ENGINEERING,
IN THE AMOUNT OF $14,022.39, FOR EMERGENCY
REPAIRS TO CITY'S WATER MAIN AS A RESULT OF
STORM DAMAGES AND'DETERMINING THE URGENT
NECESSITY THEREFOR
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the City of Newport Beach
suffered storm damage from heavy rains and windstorms; and
WHEREAS, as a result of this storm, the 8 inch water
main serving the Corona Highlands and Cameo Highlands portion of
the City was damaged and broken; and
WHEREAS, this water main was the sole source of water
supply for the citizens of the City of Newport Beach living in
the affected area; and
WHEREAS, the damage to the water main not only deprived
the citizens of their supply of potable water, but also caused
the loss of water needed to provide water to City's fire hydrants
for fire fighting services in the affected area; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach finds and determines that, as a result
of the foregoing, it was an urgent necessity to award, without
competitive bidding, a contract to Rivcon Engineering, in the
amount of $14,022.39;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk be
and hereby are authorized to execute same on behalf of the City
of Newport Beach.
