A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING A DESIGNATION OF
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA IN NEWPORT BEACH AS "NEWPORT
CENTER."
• WHEREAS, that portion of Newport Beach bounded by East Coast Highway,
MacArthur Boulevard, San Joaquin Hills Road and Jamboree Road has historically been called
"Newport Center ", and
WHEREAS, this area of Newport Beach includes high and low rise office,
commercial and retail development, Fashion Island, hotels, restaurants, theaters, residential
condominiums, a golf course, public facilities (police and fire stations, and a library), and an
Orange County Transportation Authority transportation center, in the central portion of the City;
and
WHEREAS, the formal designation of this area as "Newport Center" will allow the
City to request Caltrans to place signage on Route 73 directing corridor motorists to this area of
the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach that the area of Newport Beach bounded by East Coast Highway, MacArthur
Boulevard, San Joaquin Hills Road and Jamboree Road, is designated "Newport Center ", and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
that Caltrans be requested to provide signage on Route 73 at appropriate locations to direct
motorists to "Newport Center."
