HomeMy WebLinkAbout97-58 - Prohibiting Skateboarding on Certain Public StreetsRESOLUTION NO. 97 -58 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH PROHIBITING SKATEBOARDING ON CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 8914 WHEREAS, on March 22, 1976, the Newport Beach City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1660, entitled "An Ordinance of the City of Newport Beach adding Chapter 12.57 to the Newport Beach Municipal Code entitled 'Skateboarding Regulations "; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 12.57.020 of said ordinance, the City Council may prohibit skateboarding by resolution on certain public streets and other public property located within the City of Newport Beach, having a grade of six percent (6 %) or more and • which are declared to be hazardous to pedestrians, motorists or persons operating skateboards; and • WHEREAS, on October 26, 1976, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 8914 designating certain streets within the City of Newport Beach to have a grade of six percent (6 %) or more and finding that said streets could be dangerous or a hazard to pedestrians, motorists or persons operating skateboards and prohibiting skateboarding thereon; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that those segments of the streets and other public property designated on Exhibit "A ", located within the City of Newport Beach, have a grade of six percent (6 %) or more and could be dangerous or a hazard to pedestrians, motorists or persons operating skateboards; -1- • • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach declares that said.segments of said streets and other public property as shown on Exhibit "A" are found to be hazardous to pedestrians, motorists or persons operating skateboards and that skateboarding is hereby prohibited thereon. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized to post said segments of said streets and other public property with appropriate signs giving notice to the public of this prohibition. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8914 is hereby rescinded. ADOPTED, this 14th day of July 1997. ATTEST: , "P.
