A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING IMPLEMENTATION OF
A CARRIER ALERT PROGRAM FOR THE HANDICAPPED
AND ELDERLY LIVING ALONE
WHEREAS, The Orange County area Agency on Aging and The
National Association of Letter Carriers co- sponsor and support
the Carrier Alert Program in Orange county; and
WHEREAS, this program serves as an alert mechanism to
help handicapped and elderly individuals living alone who may
suffer an illness or accident in the home and cannot communicate
their need for help; and
WHEREAS, the program is designed so that when a letter
carrier notices that something is amiss or unusual at a home
along his mail delivery route, he will begin a chain of actions
designed to help those citizens who are registered therewith and
desirous of such help.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach supports the implementation of this
Carrier Alert Program in cooperation with its Oasis Senior
Citizens' Center.
