RESOLUTION NO. 84 -43
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH TO THE CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION
COMMISSION REQUESTING MODIFICATION OF AN ADOPTED
ROUTE FOR STATE HIGHWAY 55
WHEREAS, the State of California is planning to improve a portion
of State Highway Route 55 from Route 1 in the City of Newport Beach to
Route 73 in the City of Costa Mesa, Orange County, California; and
WHEREAS, a Public Hearing was held on June 29, 1983 to discuss
various alternatives; and
WHEREAS, it has been found that that portion of the route adopted
July 17, 1969, located westerly of Superior Avenue and between Route 1 and
the northerly city limits of the City of Newport Beach does not best serve
the citizens of Newport Beach or the traveling public; and
WHEREAS, Alternative No. H -2, a depressed freeway with retaining
walls located easterly of Newport Boulevard between Industrial Way and Bay
Street is preferred by the City of Newport: Beach; and
WHEREAS, this request to the California Transportation Commission
to consider modification of this route is in conformance with Section 211.5
of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach hereby requests that the adopted location for State Highway
Route 55 between Route 1 and Bay Street, adopted July 17, 1969, be abandoned
and Alternative Route H -2 as shown on Exhibit "A" be considered as the
adopted route.
