A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING
THE ADOPTION OF "THE WORKABLE AIRPORT SOLUTION"
BY THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AS THE
MASTER PLAN FOR JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the residents of Orange County need and demand
first class air transportation services; and
WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is the only existing com-
mercial air transportation facility within the County of Orange;
and
WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is in desperate need of
improvement and modernization to better serve the air traveling
public; and
WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport currently creates severe
environmental impacts on the area and the residents in the vicinity;
and
WHEREAS, a balance between air service needs and environ-
mental needs must be achieved; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors will con-
sider a Master Plan for John Wayne Airport; and
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach City Council has reviewed and is
familiar with "The Workable Airport Solution "; and
WHEREAS, "The Workable Airport Solution" presents a concept
which provides for the air transportation needs of Orange County
while limiting the environmental impacts in the vicinity of airports,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Newport
Beach urges the Orange County Board of Supervisors to adopt as the
Master Plan for John Wayne Airport the following three concepts
included in "The Workable Airport Solution ":
(a) 55 average daily departures
(b) Guaranteed limits
(c) Site selection and advocacy of an additional
moderate -sized airport
ADOPTED this 14th day of January, 1985.
