HomeMy WebLinkAbout85-43 - No Parking on Certain Areas of East Coast HighwayRESOLUTION NO. 85 -43 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH PROHIBITING PARKING ON EAST COAST HIGHWAY FROM CAMEO HIGHLANDS DRIVE /CAMEO SHORES ROAD TO THE EASTERLY CITY LIMIT WHEREAS, Section 12.44.150 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code provides, among other things, that the City Council shall, by Resolution, designate streets or portions of streets on which the parking or standing of vehicles is to be prohibited; and WHEREAS, staff has reviewed parking restrictions on East Coast Highway and has determined that a dangerous condition exists for persons parking on the inland side of East Coast Highway who attempt crossing four lanes of high -speed traffic in order to reach the beach; and WHEREAS, staff has recommended that prohibition of parking in this area would provide a safe place for bicyclists using this route by preventing motorists from opening car doors into on- coming traffic; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is reasonable and in the public interest to prohibit parking of vehicles on East Coast Highway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that vehicle parking shall be prohibited on East Coast Highway from the easterly City limit to the signalized intersection at Cameo Highlands Drive and Cameo Shores Road; and • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Traffic Engineer shall erect all necessary signs to indicate said restricted parking areas.
