HomeMy WebLinkAbout85-86 - Outer Continental Shelf MoratoriumRESOLUTION NO. 85 -86 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING CONTINUATION OF THE CALIFORNIA OUTER CONTINENTAL SHELF MORATORIUM WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives, in considering certain provisions in the Department of Interior Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 1986, temporarily restored the existing moratorium on outer continental shelf leasing activities in the California outer continental shelf planning area; and WHEREAS, the United States Senate is currently deliberating over the final version of the fiscal year 1986 Department of Interior Appropriations Bill; and WHEREAS, the negotiations on the terms of a final agreement on the outer continental lease offering activities are continuing; and WHEREAS, although the City of Newport Beach supports efforts to develop oil and gas resources, onshore and offshore, it does not support development and leasing activities in environmentally sensitive areas; and WHEREAS, local governments throughout California wish to conanunicate their support of the continuation of the California outer continental shelf moratorium on lease offering activities throughout the entire coastline of the California outer continental shelf planning areas in its present form until either October 1, 1986 or the implementation of the final agreement on the outer continental lease offering; activities, whichever occurs • last. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby adopt this Resolution in support of the continuation of the California outer continental shelf moratorium on lease offering activities throughout the entire coastline of the California outer continental shelf planning areas in its 1 present form until either October 1, 1986 or the implementation of the final agreement on the outer continental lease offering activities, whichever occurs last; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution should be • forwarded to the members of the United States Congress involved in the decision - making process on this issue for appropriate action on the Department of Interior Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 1986.
