HomeMy WebLinkAbout87-135 - Increase Traffic Signal Time at Coast HighwayRESOLUTION NO. 87 -135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY • OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INCREASE THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL TIME FOR PEDESTRIANS CROSSING COAST HIGHWAY AT MARGUERITE AVENUE AND TO CONSIDER THE REMOVAL OF THE MARKED CROSSWALKS AT LARKSPUR AND MARIGOLD AVENUES. WHEREAS, Coast Highway and its various intersections is under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Transportation; WHEREAS, over 700 pedestrians per day cross Coast Highway at Larkspur, Marguerite and Marigold Avenues; and WHEREAS, the traffic signal timing at Marguerite Avenue is such that some pedestrians require two cycles in order to cross Coast Highway; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to reduce the number of uncontrolled, marked crosswalks; and WHEREAS, the intersection of Coast Highway and Larkspur Avenue and Marigold Avenue are one (1) block each side of the signalized intersection at Marguerite Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, that the California Department of Transportation be requested to do as follows: 1. Adjust the traffic signal timing at the intersection of Coast Highway and Marguerite so that pedestrians can cross Coast Highway on a single cycle. -1- 2.
