A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL 01= THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
SUPPORTING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE TRANSPORTATION "SUPER"
COMMITTEE OF THE ORANGE COUNTY DIVISION, LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA
CITIES
• WHEREAS, increasing traffic congestion in Orange County is hindering
the movement of people, goods, and services; and is resulting in deterioration
of the quality of life in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, transportation funding and expenditures in Orange County are
far less than is needed to provide adequate transportation facilities; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to reduce travel demands on the County
transportation system through appropriate land use planning and related demand
reduction measures; and
WHEREAS, policies, performance standards, and transportation
infrastructure improvement requirements are needed in some areas in conjunction
with land use approvals; and
WHEREAS, new funding sources and programs must be developed to ade-
quately fund the County's transportation needs; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation "Super" Committee of the Orange County
Division of the League of California Cities has prepared a report dated
September, 1987, containing recommendations for addressing the County's
transportation problems;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach supports the recommendations of the Transportation "Super"
Committee; and concurs in forwarding the recommendations to the Orange County
Transportation Commission and to the Orange county Board of Supervisors for
further analysis and development of an action plan for implementation.
