HomeMy WebLinkAbout87-166 - Closure of Pacific Coast Highway Bike TrailRESOLUTION NO. 87 -166 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DIRECTING CLOSURE OF THE CONNECTION OF THE PCH BIKE TRAIL TO THE WEST END OF SEASHORE DRIVE. WHEREAS, the chain link fence along the southerly side of the Pacific Coast Highway bicycle trail, just east of the • Santa Ana River Bridge contains an opening which allows bicyclists to access the cul -de -sac at the west end of Seashore Drive; and WHEREAS, Seashore Drive west of Orange Avenue is a one way street and bicyclists proceeding eastbound are riding against the flow of traffic if they enter Seashore from the PCH Bike Trail; and WHEREAS, West Newport Beach Association has asked the City Council to close bicycle access to and from the west end of Seashore Drive; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that restriction of bicycle access to the west end of Seashore Drive will promote safety and not unduly hamper bicycle movement. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby resolves as follows: Section 1: The opening in the fence along the southerly side of the Pacific Coast Highway Bike Trail, just east of the Santa Ana River Bed shall be closed so as to prohibit access to the west end of Seashore Drive from the PCH Bike Trail.
