RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 83 -53,
AND APPROVING DIRECT ACCESS TO COAST HIGHWAY
FROM THE FORMER CALTRANS EAST PROPERTY
• WHEREAS, the site formerly designated as "Caltrans East"
is a parcel of property located adjacent to Pacific Coast Highway
between Superior Avenue and Newport Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, in June 1983, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach adopted Resolution 83 -53 requesting that direct
access to Pacific Coast Highway from the former Caltrans East par-
cel be restricted; and
WHEREAS, a traffic engineering study has been performed
to analyze concerns regarding the potential impacts of a signal-
ized intersection connecting said parcel to Pacific Coast
Highway; and
WHEREAS, the traffic engineering study has shown that
such a signalized intersection can be created without causing
undue restrictions to the flow of traffic on Pacific Coast
Highway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that Resolution No. 83 -53 is hereby
rescinded; and the concept of direct access from the former
"Caltrans East" property to Pacific Coast Highway is approved.
